i need a life

February's CD-R fight is now completed except for the cover which I'll try to finish tomorrow. Further previews, either fight or what light will follow house of violence from earlier in the week. Both tracks will be posted over at sonic obnoxion machine records' MySpace.

fight has fewer tracks than tare - just four - but lasts longer at around 38 minutes. The tracks in order are:

house of violence
This consists of short bass growls looped and layered using the LoopStation. A minute of this loop was recorded and then slowed down to seventeen minutes. The resulting audio was then pitchshifted to make it playable. The editing took around twelve hours.

vetch
This is the shortest and simplest track at just over three minutes. In fact the techniques and resources throughout the recording are minimal. vetch features thirteen associated words repeated at first quietly and with large pauses. Then increasing in volume and finally with reducing intervals.

fight
Textually fight is even simpler than vetch. A single word - fight - is spoken repeatedly in an elongated form. The use of a handbuilt mic destabilises this simple act as both the buzz of faulty connections and feedback generated by the volume of the amp and the open end of the plastic cup used for the mic threaten to drown the voice in turn. Eventually noise is allowed to take over and the track finishes after six and a half minutes.

what light
what light was intended to be much more layered than it turned out. Attempts were made to add to the two tracks recorded but nothing worked. In the end this eleven minute track consists of metal objects rubbed together in what is often a rhythmic manner while a voice makes harsh non-linguistic utterances over the top sometimes mimicking the metal.

More news on this soon.
