utter dismal failure of organisation pt1 (probably)

The best thing about whatever you want to call the upcoming mid-winter festival is that it means several days together off work. Which when you have a stack of writing and other things you want to get through is a real bonus.

Of course santiago brings it all on himself by embarking on new pieces before anything else is finished. This weekend is a case in point: santiago has two big writing projects on the go, his most complicated short story yet, and his most complicated script yet, both of which need serious time spending on them. Now Saturday was always going to be tough, what with six hours training for voluntary work in the middle of the day. But it got even more complicated when santiago started making two short films. Not on a whim you understand...

To explain, santiago and friends went to see Bardo Pond play Manchester Music Box on November 29, supported by Alexander Tucker (excellent) and Jackie-O Motherfucker (all a bit whalesong for our tastes). The gig was great and walking home santiago wrote a poem called fold:fall, based around a repetitive rhythm and a single visual image. Back at the flat a vocal performance was recorded (which still badly needs to be cleaned-up), and only the dark stopped any filming for an accompanying video. The next weekend that video was shot and the editing begun, and in the process of that some old shots were rediscovered that really need to be used properly. What's more they were a perfect fit with a half conceived idea about a slow-paced, crepuscular, all but silent short film solely about dim lighting.

So by the following weekend (that's last weekend now, in case you were wondering) the poetry video had been completed, but was shit and basically needed to be reshot from scratch. The crepuscular film was only a couple of clips, and needed much more work. So, having the light and the time, the films became a priority. Although after all that preamble most of the work was actually done on Sunday. What's more neither film's been finished yet, but they're going to have to wait to the weekend now, the writing must take precedence for a couple of days.

And that's without adding in the three poems on the go, the 'music' to accompany the crepuscular movie and the timber 'sculpture' that's still unfinished. Which of course is where the midwinter holiday comes in, either that or better planning. It's also quite likely that at some point next year one or more of these bits of work will end up on the blog.

Watch out for a couple more posts this month though.
