go away

OK, I'm launching a futile fight here, given that there's very little I can do to discourage people searching for filth. But it's long ceased to be amusing that a number of people are coming to this blog after entering vile terms into their search-engine. The dilemma I face is how to put off the perverts without self-censoring my poetry and other writing. A possible solution is to stick something upfront, as a subtitle or at the top of the sidebar making it self-evident I condemn the sexual or other exploitation of women and men.

As a beginning I'm going to make a statement here. Please be aware there is no pornography here. Nor are there any defences of it, on grounds of irony (bogus), harmlessness (dubious), or post-feminism (which in content seems to mean pre-feminism, as it increasingly has over the past 15 years). If you're after porn then leave now, you're not welcome.

Now I don't want to be misunderstood. I have no problem whatsoever with sex, with nudity, or with portrayals of sex and nudity in art. What I do have a problem with is the degredation and exploitation of other human beings, and with work that suggests there is something acceptable about these activities. I'm aware that there are potential grey-areas and contradictions here, but I'd like to engage with those over the following few months. I'd also be grateful for anyone's thoughts on this.

I do not come at this from a religious perspective (I'm an atheist), or from a prohibitionist position, which I think tends to create more problems than it resolves. To take the example of prostitution, which is generally exploitative of the vulnerable, criminalising appears to serve no useful purpose. Apart from anthing else it's a disincentive to provide decent rights and protection to sex-workers, which I realise is a far broader category. All of these are issues I'll try to debate at some future date.

Rant over for now. Expect some relevant links in the next month or so, and more discussion.
