graham dunning residency in birmingham
Here's something worth a look online even if you can't get down to Birmingham. Musician/artist/sound artist Graham Dunning has recently started a ten week residency at the Rea Garden. So far as I can tell his is the fourth and final residency in a year-long project during which artists have occupied and responded to the former industrial site. But don't take my word for it, follow those links and find out for yourself.
As a previous artist uncovered shellac fragments from a record plant formerly on or near the site part of Graham's residency is a mock archaeological excavation in which he is digging and documenting test holes. Any shellac or vinyl fragments founds will be used in sound/sculptural pieces created for the residency. Graham is blogging about the residency here.
Probably of less interest, but you may remember from a couple of weeks ago I have quite coincidentally also been referencing archaeology in my current work in the studio. There will be some more photos of this work shortly.
[Edited to correct link to Graham's residency blog above - sorry about that.]
