outside - 100-word novel
Ooh, and another. Can you tell I'm bored in work?
Outside
One of the plastic bottles of water recently fetched from the freezer made a loud cracking sound. Becca started, and without looking up from her book Lindsay reached out and touched her hand. A bee crawled on the slightly unstable garden table between them.
Becca was staring at the sky, imagining it was the ground, and she was indescribably far above it held to a fragile skin of rock. Lindsay kept losing her place on the page and reading the same passages again. Now and then the words would turn to images and dissolve together. Then she would jolt awake.
