It's innocuous little things at first. The level in the ship canal is low and it's a bright day so you can see a lot. Wine bottles could be anything. Kids from Ordsall, people on a barge, drawn down from the centre of town.

But a walking stick. Outside of unverified miracles people don't just throw walking sticks away.

Obviously you might throw away an auctioneer's mallet though.
And then there's the gull. Footprints of geese all around.
The geese turn their attention from a yellow ball at the water's edge.
