round up of cool stuff here or imminent

A quick summary of some music, theatre and art upcoming.

First up, Infinite Birth, the joint project of Blood Moon and friends Helen and Gary play abode in Chorlton at 20:00. Entry is free and the music will be loud. Like really loud. Oh yeah, it's this coming Saturday, 12 September.

Already on and shortly to finish, although I only found out about it recently, Ceryth Wyn Evans has an installation involving sound in collaboration with Throbbing Gristle at the Tramway in Glasgow. It's been on since 7 August and ends on 27 September, so not long left. The installation is called A=P=P=A=R=I=T=I=O=N.

Imminent and only on for a short time, the University of Huddersfield present Variance, a physical theatre performance, at the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield. It's on from Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 September at 19:30, with a 14:00 matinee on the Friday. Tickets are £8 or £5 concessions. As with Infinite Birth I have an interest here, one of my sisters will be taking part. She actually completed the MA programme in physical theatre successfully last year, but was able to undertake the practical portion of the course again this year. I understand the course is very highly regarded. I thought last year's performance was great. If you don't often get out of Manchester Huddersfield is well worth a visit, and the Lawrence Batley Theatre deserves all the support it can get.

For any film fans who might have seen his Blissfully Yours, Tropical Malady, and Syndromes and a Century, then Apichatpong Weerasethakul's installation Primitive at Liverpool's FACT should be on your list. I think it's his first installation in the UK, and it runs from 24 September to 29 November. For anyone who doesn't know his films then you should probably think about correcting that omission pretty soon, and go along to Liverpool anyway.

Moving now to the online realm, interviews from their recent visit with both P. Inman and Tina Darragh are available at the respective links from The Other Room.

Finally, as you can see below the next instalment of The Other Room is around a month away on Wednesday 7 October. As usual it's free and starts at 19:00 at the Old Abbey Inn (aka the Kro Bar what nobody knows about), at 61 Pencroft Way on Manchester Science Park, M15 6AY. The readers will be Michael Haslam and Craig Dworkin. As usual those kind people at The Other Room have provided links to samples of both writers' work - Michael here and Craig here. Enjoy.
