Damn shame he didn't have the funding or exposure he deserved in recent years.
But the British film industry is timid - so many excellent filmmakers have struggled for funding or had to go overseas - if they didn't get stuck in development hell:
Sally Potter, Lynne Ramsay, Terence Davies, Andrew Kotting, and I'm sure others.
