grrrrr!

Well, had a response back from the course director of the MA programme santiago was hoping to join, and it's extremely disappointing. Currently I'm too angry to reply to him in a sensible and measured way, but it can wait till next week.

In essence he said 'You should attend poetry courses/workshops, read more poetry, check out the library which has current poetry magazines, and subscribe to poetry journals'. To which there are at least two objections.

1. It doesn't actually answer the question posed: 'where was the application particularly weak?'

2. It's patronising to the extent of being offensive. It seems to suggest that the application has been judged solely on the interview, and that the portfolio of work (which was supplied twice) has been disregarded. Either that or they thought the work in the portfolio was of a low quality but decided to go ahead with an interview anyway. Neither possibility reflects well on the selection process.

There is also a catalogue of minor administrative cock-ups along the way that have made the process more irritating than need be.

On the bright side it's made a decision for me that this is not a course I want to reapply for. When a response consisting of a more detailed version of what's been written above has been sent, and a reply to that received, the results will be posted here.

Take care.
