insect traces
On Sunday despite walking two dogs for a friend I managed to get a few photos.

My favourites were these three. They appear to be the tracks of some kind of woodworm - the larvae of insects - making their way out of the wood and through the bark. Which has now fallen away exposing the tracks.

I love how they appear variously like a living creature, the fossils of a flesh butterfly*, the traces left by a parasite under the skin, or obssessive carvings - of mazes, of veins or nerves, or of some skeletal form.
