sorry for the delay...

Santiago's dead wasp has been on a bit of an enforced hiatus over the last few weeks. It's about a month since santiago's dead wasp was meant to be online from home, and there are around 13,000 words and several photos generated and stocked up over the last six weeks with the intention of being posted here. But obviously santiago ain't online at home yet or all this stuff would have been posted by now. So what happened?

Unbelievably BT and HDNL have managed to foul up delivery of the broadband kit even more badly than before since the last update (see below). First HDNL didn't leave any card or update their site to say when the package got returned to BT so a couple of days were lost before I rang up on 25 May and found out it had been sent back. It then took two days the next week (29/30 May) and an eventual 20 minute call to BT to arrange for the package to be resent to my work address where there's always someone on reception. But the package was due to arrive on 6 June, and this time BT were going to phone to check whether it had arrived yet. So all good news.

And BT did ring to check, but the broadband kit never came. Eventually on Thursday 7 June they said 'Er, sorry, didn't dispatch it yet. We'll do that now and you'll have it next week. Someone will call you and say when.' So on Saturday someone rang and said 'It'll be with you on Monday 11 June.' But nothing arrived on Monday or Tuesday, and when I got home Tuesday evening there was a call to ring BT. On calling BT the conversation went something like this:

BT
You haven't got the home hub yet.

ME
No.

BT
They have tried to deliver it.

ME
Well they haven't tried very hard then.

BT
They've tried twice, they tried on Monday at 10.45 and today at/ 11...

ME
/Where were they delivering? There's always people here.

BT
I assume to your home address, there's no note on/ the system...

ME
/Well that's no use, there's no one there. The whole purpose of this redelivery was to get it sent to work, cos there are always people there, and I don't have to hang around at home.

BT
No, its gone to your home address, Grafton Street. I'm very sorry. There's no note on the system,/ I don't know...

ME
/Ok. Well, can you make sure it's sent to my work address? Because there are likely to be people there.

BT
Ok. Can I take the address details again?

So for the second time I gave them my work address, and was told that on Thursday (14 June) at the earliest the package should be with me. That would be good, but given these companies' abilities to drop a bollock on the simplest of jobs it's not guaranteed. Keep watching - with luck, by the weekend there could be a dozen new posts here.

update 14 june

Of course there bloody won't be any posts before the weekend. Despite being asked by BT (their customers) HDNL wouldn't accept a change of delivery address to santiago's work, and instead pointlessly tried to deliver again to the home address. The upshot of which is that BT have had to despatch a whole new home hub, hopefully to the correct address this time, to arrive on Monday next week. Yeah, right.
